As a birth doula, I will work with you to develop a birth plan and be present during your labor and birth with the goal of ensuring a satisfying and positive birth experience. I will help provide you and your partner with emotional, physical, and informational support. I will support your communications with other birth attendants and help you get the information you need to make informed choices. I can provide relaxation and visualization techniques, suggestions for positioning (including use of a birth ball), hot and cold packs to help with backache and back labor pain, aromatherapy, and other client-specific requests. I am independent and self-employed. As your doula, I work for you, not your caregiver or the hospital.
As a postpartum doula, my role may change from day to day or week to week. My primary task is to provide education and support for new mothers and their families, but I can also offer the practical services of cooking, organizing and doing laundry so that the family can focus on their new addition. I may speak with siblings about their new job as "big brother" or "big sister," or give partners guidance on caring for their growing family. As a postpartum doula, I am focused on the entire family and my goal is to ensure a joyful transition to life with a newborn.
